Eldorado Gold Production Update

Paul Wright, President and CEO of Eldorado Gold, was pleased to announce EGO's 4th quarter production from their Kisladag and Tanjianshan mines today. Production was higher than my projections, at a combined 107,000 ounces from the two mines with a cash operating cost of $307 per ounce. This put the yearly production higher than management projections of 330,000 ounces (it was 342,820). This increase of production put my estimated 4th Quarter EPS at $0.10 from $0.09. Full financials will be announced in March.

Eldorado keeps outperforming their production targets each quarter. The recent merger with Sino-gold will allow EGO to continue to produce more and more gold at less than a $400 cash cost. It should just be a matter of time before EGO hits my price target of $16 a share. EGO closed at $14.90 today (1/14/10).

Ecolab Develops Breakthrough Cleaning Solution

Ecolab Inc. today announced it has developed Exelerate(R) ZTF, a breakthrough cleaning program to help food manufacturers address the growing problem with cleaning zero trans fat food oil from processing equipment and environmental surfaces. The patent-pending program cut the cleaning time in half during initial testing and is the first product of its kind to address the emerging issue.

ECL was up almost 2% to $46.11 in trading Monday before the closing bell.

The full news release can be viewed at http://investor.ecolab.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=436639

My price target of just over $50 remains for Ecolab and I will continue to monitor the position.

Eldorado Gold Update

With gold sustaining its record highs in price of well over $1,100 an ounce, I have updated the EGO model.

I changed my income statement using a 2010 gold price of $1,100 instead of the $1,000 that was in my model. My valuation changed to $15.59 to get me at a new price target of $16, which is 17% upside from the closing price of $13.63 today. (11/23/09)

Going forward, we bought half a position in EGO at $12.91 and are up 5.5% already with another 17% upside for 22% total upside. The gold price may fall during this 4th quarter and EGO may fall with it. If this happens, we can turn EGO into a full position if we get in cheap enough. If the gold rally continues, EGO should hit my price target. For the time being, I think EGO is a hold.
